The PERACE

About PERACE

Increase the national rate of access to electricity by 5% by June 2025…

The Government of Cameroon, with the support of the World Bank, has been implementing since 2020 the Rural Electrification and Access to Electricity Project in Underserved Regions of Cameroon (PERACE).

The Project Development Objective (PDO) is to increase the national rate of access to electricity by 5% by June 2025, with sustained attention to underserved regions—namely the Far North, East, South-West, and North-West—where PERACE will electrify 280 localities.

With the support of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Union (EU), the Government, through PERACE, will electrify 194 localities in the Adamawa and North Regions starting in 2025.

At the institutional level, project ownership is ensured by the Ministry of Water and Energy, with the Rural Electrification Agency acting as the Project Owner and Promoter.

The direct beneficiaries of the Project are current and future electricity consumers, including the poor who do not have access to electricity due to the absence of distribution networks in rural areas and the high initial connection costs. The indirect beneficiaries are institutional stakeholders in the electricity sector, contractors, consultants, ENEO, and suppliers.

The total cost of PERACE, all funding combined, amounts to 121.4 million Euros, or the equivalent of approximately 79 billion 633 million FCFA, distributed as follows:
